Cat lucky to be alive after it gets caught in brutal trap in Boughton Lees

One cat had a lucky escape after he was caught in a brutal trap but managed to drag himself home.

Whisky, the 15-year-old ginger cat from Boughton Lees, crawled down his road before getting stuck in his cat flap, with the savage contraption still hooked to his leg.

His owner, who asked not to be named, has now issued a warning to pet owners in a bid to prevent any other pets suffering.

She said: "I found him stuck in the cat flap at 7.30am and he had probably been there all night.

"I was so panicked when I saw him. It was quite hard to get the trap off but I did and then I took him straight to the vets.

"The worrying thing is if he hadn’t managed to drag himself home to get help, he would probably have just died.

"He must have got caught up in the trap somewhere near our house because he never goes very far from home.

"The trap is very big and looks like it must be fore a fox or something, it’s much too large to be a mouse trap.”

Whisky was found on Saturday morning stuck in the cat flap with the 12 inch trap clamped to his leg.

He was taken to the vets straight away, where he was put on a cocktail of anti-inflammatories and painkillers.

Luckily, his injuries were not life-threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery, but his owner wants to make people aware of the dangers of such things.

She added: "There are children who play down this road and lots of people have pets, so it’s really dangerous.

"I want to highlight it because it does need to be addressed, not only did I get a hefty vets bill but I had to see my poor animal in pain.

"Now I worry every time he goes out that the same thing might happen again. I appreciate we live in the countryside but there are a lot of domestic animals around here as well, something should be done."
