The M20 has reopened this morning following a serious accident.
The London-bound stretch of the motorway had been closed between Junction 11 and 10 near Sellindge since last night following what has been described as a multi-vehicle collision.
The coast-bound stretch was also closed for a time.
Highways England said the road had to be shut until a police investigation had concluded.
Just before 11pm, Highways England urged motorists trapped on the carriageway to be patient as they started to free vehicles from the back of the queue.
A statement issued on social media said: "If you're a motorist who is 'trapped' inside the closed section of the #M20 Londonbound J11 - J10 due to a collision, our Traffic Officers are working hard with @kentpoliceroads to release you, starting from the back of the queue. Your continued patience is really appreciated."
According to witnesses, the accident involved a lorry and a motorbike.
Highways England is warning traffic leaving Dover and Eurotunnel especially to be wary of delays.
In a further update at 4am Highways England said the road remained closed and motorists were being diverted along the A20 but just before 5am they reported the motorway had reopened.
