A28 re-opened between Great Chart, Ashford, and Bethersden, following crash

The A28 near Ashford has been re-opened, more than three hours after a serious crash between a motorbike and a van.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the stretch of the busy main road at 8am and remained at the scene until about 11.30am.

A male motorcyclist has been airlifted to King's College Hospital in London with head, chest, leg, arm and abdominal injuries, an air ambulance spokesman has confirmed.

One ambulance and two paramedic cars went to the crash site and a woman who was travelling in the van was taken to the William Harvey Hospital with minor injuries.

The road was shut between Kiln Lane, Bethersden, and Ashford Road, Great Chart, for three-and-a-half hours.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the crash happened at the junction with Bethersden Road.
