A father accused of causing serious injury to four people by dangerous driving did not enter a plea in court.

Toby Cockram, of Hedgers Way in Kingsnorth, was driving his Ford EcoSport when it allegedly veered onto the opposite carriageway, colliding with a 50-year-old’s black BMW.

The incident, which happened on the A20 outside Caldecott House near Smeeth, resulted in all parties being injured, Folkestone Magistrates’ Court heard.

Dressed in black trousers and a white shirt, Cockram wept in the dock as prosecutor Anna Kachingwe read out the four charges.

“At 3pm Mr Cockram was driving on Hythe Road in Ashford when his car was driven on the wrong side of the road,” she said.

“All of the people required hospital treatment.”

The crash happened on June 4 last year.

Cockram spoke only to confirm his age name and address.

District Judge Justin Barron said: “I understand the stress these proceedings have caused you and your wife in the back of the court at this stage.

“Based on the complexity of the case it will be heard at crown court for the trial.”

Cockram, defended by Jennie Ostridge of Gurney Harden Solicitors, was released on unconditional bail and will be due before Canterbury Crown Court on December 5.

He is facing four counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, contrary to the Road Traffic and Road Traffic Offenders Act.
