A man has been arrested after allegedly trying to urinate on a live train line before biting a police officer.
Police were called to Ashford International station last night after railway staff reported seeing the man attempting to relieve himself onto the electrified line.
After a British Transport Police (BTP) team were tasked to the scene, it is reported the man became aggressive and assaulted railway staff and tried to board a train.
A spokesperson for the force said when officers approached him, he became “instantly aggressive” and had to be restrained, during which time he attempted to bite an officer on the knee.
Following the dramatic scenes, the suspect has been charged and remanded in police custody.
He is due to appear at magistrates’ court today to answer charges of being drunk and disorderly and assaulting an emergency service worker.
A statement from BTP on X, formerly Twitter, read: “A male has been charged & remanded in police custody to appear at court tomorrow morning for being drunk & disorderly and assault emergency service worker.
“Officers had been called to Ashford International late last night for reports of a male trying to urinate on the live line.
“Upon officers arriving on scene, the male attempted to assault Southeastern railway staff and tried to board a train.
“The moment officers got to the male he was instantly aggressive and had to be restrained using cuffs and limb restraints, during which he bit an officer on the knee.”
