Man charged with sexual assault after woman groped in Ashford town centre

A 63-year-old man has been charged with sexual assault after a woman reported being groped at a restaurant.

The victim was in Ashford town centre last Saturday (November 25) when she is said to have been approached by someone and touched inappropriately.

She was then alleged to have been assaulted a second time on Thursday (November 30) in the same location.

Police began an investigation and later arrested Gheorghe Tirbu, Canterbury Road, Ashford, that day.

He was charged with two counts of sexual assault by touching.

Tirbu appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Friday (December 1) and was granted conditional bail to re-appear at Margate Magistrates’ Court on August 16.
