Man injured in railway bridge fall

A man was flown to hospital after falling from a bridge onto the railway line.

The incident happened at Ashford’s Newtown just after 7am on Saturday.

A Kent Air Ambulance spokesman said: “A 28-year-old man suffered spinal and limb injuries.

“We treated him initially at the scene and he was conveyed to the William Harvey Hospital.”

Kent Police say they were alerted to the incident by a call from a railway worker.

South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended the incident and the matter was dealt with by British Transport Police.

Another rail worker, who had arrived at the scene to start a shift, said: “I saw a man lying between tracks. He was obviously in pain and a workman first went to attend to him, then the police and ambulance service arrived.”
