A MAN is in a critical condition in hospital after a brutal assault.

Police say the incident happened at around midday on Sunday at an address in Hythe Road, Ashford.

The 74-year-old man was taken to Ashford's William Harvey hospital with serious head injuries. A police spokeswoman today described his condition as "critical."

She added: "We would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Hythe Road on Sunday between midday and 1pm and saw anything suspicious."
