frenzy

Meerkats at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park have been getting
into the spirit of Halloween, by dressing up in spooky
costumes!

Staff at the park, near Ashford, managed to entice
the animals with a game of trick or treat - filling pumpkins
with crickets and locusts.

When the meerkats saw the pumpkin dangling on a piece of string
above their enclosure, they rallied together to try and
give each other a leg up so they could dive
head first into the treat.

Adrian Harland, Animal Director at Port Lympne, said:
"The meerkat clan were all highly curious and couldn't resist the
unusual objects. Some decided to attack the pumpkins but one was
highly ingenious and stuck its head right inside the pumpkin to eat
all the goodies before the rest of the clan could get to it."

Keeper Sarah Wills said: "It gives them enrichment. They like
anything different, they're quite inquisitive animals."

To see the meerkats have their fun, just take a look at our
video report above!
