Two conmen claiming to be from a bank have taken £1,500 from a woman's account after cold calling at her home.

Two men, claiming to be from Lloyds Bank, called at the home of an elderly woman in Thirlmere, Kennington, and said they had come to check her bank card.

They were very well dressed and polite and were invited in.

"They took her bank details and shortly after leaving money was withdrawn from her account," Police Community Support Officer Nikki Relf told a meeting of Kennington Community Forum on Tuesday.

Police say one of the men is described as white, 5ft 8in tall, with short brown hair aged about 50, of medium build. He was wearing a dark navy winter coat which was knee length, and dark grey trousers.

The other is described as black, 5ft 8in tall, of average build. He was wearing a dark woolly navy hat with a light blue rim.

In a second incident bogus callers tricked their way into Gerlach House in Beecholme Drive and persuaded elderly residents to buy torches and other items.
