Kwesi Appiah made it 28 goals for the season so far with brace as Margate recorded a fine 4-2 win at Ryman League Premier Division rivals Cray Wanderers on Tuesday.
Jack Clark put the hosts ahead on three minutes but Curtis Robinson levelled the scores with a header and less than 60 seconds later Appiah recorded his 27th goal of the season to put Gate ahead.
Both sides hit the woodwork before Lewis Perkins made it 2-2 on the stroke of half-time, but six minutes into the second half Appiah fired in his second to make it 3-2 and Dan Subbs secured the points just over 20 minutes from time.
Gate moved up to 10th, eight points behind the sixth-placed Wands, but with two games in hand.
Faversham Town cruised to a 4-0 derby win over Sittingbourne in Ryman League Division 1 South at the Shepherd Neame Stadium on Tuesday night.
Aaron Quain's left-footed drive put the hosts ahead before the break and the former Margate man sent in a cross for Adrian Stone to head a second before the hour.
Quain latched onto a long free-kick forward to lash a half-volley in for number three eight minutes from time and there was still time for Stone to power in a last-minute header to seal a comfortable win.
The win took Faversham into ninth, above Saturday's opponents Hythe on goal difference, while the Brickies stay 15th.
Faversham leapfrogged Ramsgate, who slipped to 13th after a 2-1 home defeat to Whitstable Town.
Scott Heard gave the Oystermen the lead before the break and after Pascal Ebigbo saw red for the hosts for retaliating to a challenge, Damian Abel made it 2-0.
Shane Hamshare saw red for Whitstable before Ian Pulman pulled one back against his former club but Whitstable moved up to 18th, five points clear of the drop-zone.
Thamesmead Town won the Ryman League Division 1 North clash with Chatham Town on Tuesday night.
David Noel opened the scoring a minute before the break while Theo Fairweather-Johnson sealed the win with 20 minutes left as Mead went 11th, leapfrogging the Chats who slipped to 13th.
Folkestone Invicta stole the Ryman League Division 1 South headlines with an 8-0 Boxing Day massacre of local rivals Hythe Town on Boxing Day.
Stuart King was the hero with four for the hosts, who scored six in a 20-minute purple patch either side of half-time.
James Everitt netted two others and set up his brother Micheal to add another, while Josh Vincent was also on target as Invicta enjoyed a day to remember in front of a crowd of more than 1,000 to cement their place in the top four at the turn of the year.
Maidstone United got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Corinthian Casuals.
After five straight league defeats and no win in six, Maidstone made a nervy start and found themselves behind after just 29 minutes in front of more than 340 fans at Bourne Park.
However, Graeme Andrews drew the hosts level 20 minutes from time and with just six minutes remaining Alex Waugh stole the points to give manager Jay Saunders the perfect Christmas present.
The sixth-placed Stones are now only out of the play-off places on goal difference.
