Drivers could face huge tailbacks this weekend as part of a dual carriageway is to close again.
The eastbound side of A2070 Bad Munstereifel Road in Ashford was shut last weekend, causing gridlock across the town.
Now, the westbound carriageway will close from 8pm tonight and will not reopen until 5am on Monday morning.
It will be closed from the Sevington ‘Jet’ roundabout down to Avocet Way, the junction for the Finberry housing estate.
It is so the final stages of work can continue on the controversial ‘Bellamy Gurner’ scheme, which has seen the former Orbital Park roundabout ripped out and replaced with a four-way traffic light-controlled junction.
Access to Avocet Way and Waterbrook Avenue will be available eastbound.
A spokesperson for Crest Nicholson, the developer funding the scheme, said: “We thank residents for their ongoing patience as we complete the final stages of works at the junction, including signage, remedial works and high-friction surfacing.
“To allow for the remaining works to be completed in a safe manner, the road will be closed over the next two weekends (June 24 and 25, and July 1 and 2), and during the night between June 19 to June 21, and June 26 to June 28.”
The closure last weekend was made worse by the fact Newtown Road, a diversion drivers often take to get to Orbital Park, was also closed near the Designer Outlet.
Gas company SGN had been carrying out maintenance work since June 9 however the road is now back open.
Temporary traffic lights are also in place in Boys Hall Road in Willesborough while UK Power Networks carries out utility and maintenance repair work.
They are expected to remain in place until Monday.
Work to improve the layout of the A2070 started in May last year and was supposed to last six months.
However the completion date has been pushed back several times, with the works now spilling into July.
On the other side of Ashford, overnight closures are also in place in Simone Weil Avenue by Sainsbury’s while KCC Highways carries out surface improvement work.
The closures, between the A28 Canterbury Road and Drovers Roundabout started on Monday, and are set to last until Friday, June 30.
Work has finished on the westbound carriageway, heading toward Junction 9, while work to the eastbound carriageway heading towards the A28 Canterbury Road will start on Monday.
The road will be closed each night, excluding weekends, from 8pm until 5am.
