A motorcyclist has set off on an
extraordinary African journey.
Spencer Conway’s 40,000km motorcycle trek across 28 countries in
aid of Save The Children started on Sunday from Biddenden
village green, with villagers turning out in force to bid him
farewell.
His solo circumnavigation of Africa has captured the imagination
of many, including actor Richard E. Grant, a film crew and even
royalty.
Mr Conway, from Biddenden, who has so far raised more than
£12,000 for the charity, said: “Prince Harry gave me a call. He
sent me a letter, via his personal secretary, wishing me luck and
he phoned saying that he wanted to follow up the letter.”
Sunday’s noon farewell will see Spencer head to Dover before
sailing to France and make for his first camp site about 65 miles
outside of Calais.
Then the adventure will truly begin.
He said: “It’s now at a stage where I just want to go!”
