Ashford’s MP has dismissed claims he has an account on a website which allows married people to cheat on their partners.
A personal email address used by Damian Green in the 1990s was found on a leaked list detailing millions of people who have registered with notorious adultery site Ashley Madison.
However, the 59-year-old married father-of-two has denied any links to the site.
He said: “This email address mentioned is one I stopped using in the 1990s.
“I have never used an Ashley Madison account.”
Ashley Madison, which claims to be the world’s leading married dating service for discreet encounters, was hacked in July by cyber attackers calling themselves Impact Team.
The leaked information contains the full database of its members – including email addresses, names, home addresses, sexual fantasies and credit card information – as well as internal documents from the company itself.
According to a national newspaper, the discovery of Mr Green’s email on the site was uncovered by blog site Political Scrapbook, which trawled the 36 million email addresses of the site’s account holders.
Ashley Madison does not verify email addresses, which means it is possible to use the site with someone else’s address.
This week, Mr Green, who has been Ashford’s MP since 1997 and is married to barrister Alicia Collinson, said the episode had not impacted on his work.
He said: “This has not affected in any way my work on behalf of people in the constituency and I am looking forward to a range of engagements over the bank holiday weekend.”
