MYSTERY surrounds the death of a 19-year-old man who was killed while walking along the M20.
He was struck by a lorry on the London-bound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 11 and 10 at Ashford at about 2.45am on Wednesday.
Kent Police cannot say whether he was in the road or on the hard shoulder and, as yet, have not determined exactly what he was doing on the motorway.
It is known that he lived in the Ashford area. He has been identified and his next of kin have been informed but police are not yet releasing his name.
Police spokesman Karen Noble said: “As far as this incident is concerned we are investigating how the man came to be on the motorway. We do not know at this stage what he was doing there.”
The coroner has been informed and an inquest will be opened within days.
The London-bound side of the motorway was closed for about four hours as police dealt with the incident. The lorry driver was unhurt.
