Long-serving Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley marked his 750th game in charge of the club with a point against Ryman League, Division 1 South high-fliers Bognor Regis Town.
A brace from Simon Austin put the seasiders on course for a win against a side beaten only once this season but the division’s top scorer Jason Prior netted eight minutes from time to score his second of the game and deny Invicta all three points.
While victory last Saturday would have topped off a memorable day for the Invicta manager, the manner in which both sides played the game pleased Cugley (pictured) most.
He said: "A draw would have been a fair result but I could not have asked for a better game as it was two teams having a real go. I am lucky to have a good set of players and good people around me.
"It’s been up and down over the years – a real roller coaster. I sometimes wonder if they think about making a change but we have stuck together and while it has been 750 games, I’m hoping there will be a lot more to come.
"It’s the best I have seen it on and off the pitch for a long, long time. I am pleased with where the club is going at the moment."
Folkestone travel to Walton Casuals on Saturday with several key players likely to require fitness tests. Micheal Everitt, Richard Atkins, Liam Dickson and Roland Edge all have niggling injuries.
The Folkestone boss expects striker Stuart King to make his return to the side in next weekend’s FA Trophy third qualifying round tie at home to Staines Town, although the club have suffered a blow with the loss of Paul Jones, who requires operations on his ankle that will see him out for the rest of the season.
