Teams of puzzle solvers will soon be able to put their wits to the test and unlock their talents at Kent's latest escape room.
The Pressure Point Escape Rooms has applied for planning permission to convert a former office into the venue at New Rents in Ashford town centre.
Customers will be expected to solve puzzles and cryptic challenges in order to escape from a themed room within 60 minutes.
According to the business, groups of up to eight players can enjoy the problem solving quests together.
In a statement the company said: “An escape room is an entertainment activity involving a group of people being locked in a fictionally themed room. The players are required to solve a variety of puzzles to enable them to find keys and escape.
“It is primarily designed for friends and families, but could also be used for corporate or small business team building.”
The business is following the success of other escape rooms which have emerged around Kent, with Trip Advisor listing six venues across the county.
Then last month Channel 4 announced it has commissioned a new series of 90s television favourite The Crystal Maze, which sees teams solving puzzles and challenges in order to win crystals and a cash prize.
Comedian Richard Ayoade will be hosting the programme which is expected to broadcast 20 episodes later this year.
“We hope to create a business that would help boost Ashford as a place to visit. The escape room will provide a venue for residents to enjoy an alternative activity" - Pressure Point Escape Rooms
Meanwhile in Ashford, the owners of Pressure Point say the escape rooms will follow a similar theme, with the room being fully concealed from the outside world to give players an “immersive experience”.
The company statement also hopes it will boost the economy with visitors enjoying shops, pubs and restaurants in the town centre.
The company added: “We hope to create a business that would help boost Ashford as a place to visit. The escape room will provide a venue for residents to enjoy an alternative activity.”
Ashford Borough Council planning officers are dealing with the plans, and are expected to make a recommendation to the planning committee on whether it should be approved by Tuesday, March 7.
