Ashford News moves to bigger unit in County Square shopping centre, filling former Hann Savers shop

An off-licence is now selling American sweets and Indian snacks after moving to a bigger unit in a shopping centre.

Mahesh Joshi, owner of Ashford News, has shifted from a small unit opposite Waterstones in County Square shopping centre to a slightly bigger shop directly next door.

The site was previously used by tech repair company Hann Savers but in April, when it closed down, Mr Joshi enquired about moving.

After six days of renovations, he was able to welcome back customers to the new store last week.

The 44-year-old from Willesborough said: "It's a bigger space with more room and people can move around more comfortably.

"I now have more American sweets and crisps; I had very limited space in the small shop so now I have more room, I can sell more stock.

"There are Indian snacks in the back and foreign crisps.

"I spoke to the new landlord who is a very good man and he said to me I could move here and so we did."

Mr Joshi, who has been running Ashford News for five years, says he doesn't know what is planned for the unit next door but hopes it will be filled by a new business soon.

Meanwhile in the same section of the shopping centre, Swedish retailer H&M closed in March after 14 years and Next has also announced it plans to leave this autumn.

Earlier this year, new owners were found for County Square after the site was put on the market for £13.5m.
