A KENT police officer involved in a road crash which claimed the life of a 29-year-old woman will not be prosecuted, it has been revealed.

Barmaid Rachel Cheesewright died in the crash on the A28 near Ashford in October last year when the Ford Fiesta she was driving collided with the marked police car answering a 999 call.

A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said there would be no charges against the police driver.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) investigated the smash. The IPCC said it would be asking Kent Police whether any disciplinary action would be taken against the officer.

Ms Cheesewright, from Ashford, was driving home from the Bonny Cravat public house at Woodchurch, near Tenterden, after her shift when the crash happened at around 11pm on October 22.

The police Skoda was being driven towards Bethersden when it collided with Ms Cheesewright's car which was travelling from Brissenden Green. She died at the scene.

Two police officers were treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Ms Cheesewright was the mother of Charlotte and had been planning to marry her partner Lewis Whitehead this summer.
