A team from British Transport Police helped save the swan close to the Sevington Inland Border Facility, before it was returned back to its natural habitat.

The same day, officers also rescued a dog which was also wandering along a road alone.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the authority said: “Our late shift yesterday as well as making an arrest also safeguarded a dog and a swan.

“The dog was walking in the road and taken to a vet where the microchip gave us the owner's details and we reunited dog and owner.
