Sports activities, an athletics meeting and a beacon are being planned to help Ashford celebrate three major events next summer - the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Ashford Borough Council is planning a programme of events as well as expecting the Olympic Torch relay to pass through the borough before the main games.
The programme, costing £13,500, is detailed in a report which the council’s cabinet is expected to back when it meets on Thursday night.
Cllr William Howard (Con), portfolio holder for youth and sport, said: “The year 2012 promises to be exceptional in Ashford and around the world.
“The recommendations in this report provide opportunities at a sensible cost to celebrate and take part in activities.
“More importantly they should provide a lasting legacy for residents in Ashford both economicially and in sport.”
Events being considered include an international athletics meeting for juniors at Ashford’s Julie Rose Athletics Stadium from July 13 to 15, a Sporting Heroes Celebration night in October 2012, and special sports sessions at venues like Ashford's Stour Centre (pictured).
