A fine-dining restaurant that closed not long after getting a one-star food hygiene rating has been turned into a cafe.
Bank Street Cafe in Ashford opened earlier this month, replacing Sky Restaurant which served lobster and duck but was told to make ‘major improvements’ last year.
During an inspection on September 15, inspectors found bosses failed to meet food hygiene standards expected by law, with 10 matters that needed addressing.
The site was taken over by new management last month and has been converted into the cafe which is now open Monday to Saturdays from 8.30am until 4pm.
The new team says they have made ‘significant changes’ to the business and menu and have since achieved a five-star food hygiene rating.
They added: “The new management is really excited to share a sensational new menu, with vegan options.
“Please be patient with us while we find our feet, especially as we want to continue to make some changes for the best to improve the quality of our food and service.”
It has baguettes and sandwiches on the menu from £2.50 and light breakfasts from £4.50.
Customers can pay with cash or bank transfer only.
The venue – which was previously RJ's American Diner – is also available for private hire for functions from 5pm.
Earlier this week, KentOnline revealed how The Taproom opposite the cafe is set to reopen under new ownership next month.
