Drivers are calling for action on a "dangerous" A-road notorious for heavy flooding following another crash on the stretch.

Two vehicles, both believed to be Volkswagen Caddy vans, collided on the A2070 in Ashford shortly before 9.15pm last night.

It came at the same time the county was blitzed with thunderstorms and heavy rainfall throughout the evening.

Police were called to the collision near the roundabout at the entrance to the Bridgefield estate.

Despite the road later being cleared after the vehicles were recovered, three people were treated at the scene before being taking to William Harvey Hospital for further treatment.

Their injuries are not said to be serious.

However, several drivers have said the incident was likely the result of notorious flooding on the A-road.

One passer-by last night said: "There is a massive flood coming off the A2070 where you go left to Brenzett or straight over to Park Farm.

"Where it's really dark there you can't really see it until you're right by it - so dangerous."

Another motorist added: "That needs sorting out. Almost crashed there myself last year with water laying, especially in the dark."

One resident says he had already reported the flooding hotspot to the local authority before the incident.

He explained: "I drove past that flood and reported it to Kent County Council (KCC) at 9pm, explaining to them there will be an accident if they don't get signs out soon.

"Seems they weren't quick enough."

KCC has been approached for comment as to whether it intends to address drivers' concerns about the safety of the route.

Meanwhile, other parts of Ashford continue to remain affected by last night's weather.

Pictures sent to KentOnline show an underpass near Asda in Ashford described as still "impassable" this morning.

Footage, taken by resident Peter Morris-Kelso, also showed a section of Beaver Road, at the junction with Bond Road, suffering from a "sudden flash flood" following the storm.

Speaking in response to the town’s flooding, Cllr Steve Campkin (Greens, Willesborough Lees) said: "I spoke to the Environment Agency in 2021 and they said they were doing a survey of all the waterways in Kent and that would take two years.

“Then they will start working on solutions."
