TWO teenagers are finally back home in Kent after a trip to a music festival went disastrously wrong.
Jack Allen, 19, and Amy McClellan, 17, were among the tens of thousands camping on the Thames riverside meadows during the annual Reading Music Festival, when they became innocent victims of a freak accident.
As a neighbouring camper changed a gas cylinder a fireball was created. Jack and Amy’s tent took the full blast, which left them both with serious burns.
Jack suffered severe burns to both his arms, legs, hands and his torso, and Amy to both legs and her right arm. Somehow the flames missed their faces.
The pair were taken to the Royal Berkshire hospital before being transferred to the William Harvey in Ashford. Later they were referred to the specialist burns unit at the Queen Victoria hospital in East Grinstead.
They are now back in Ashford staying with Jack’s mother and facing twice-weekly visits to deal with the injuries, which are expected to take months to heal.
