Pensioner hurt chasing intruder from home

A HAVE-A-GO pensioner is recovering in hospital with a broken hip after chasing a burglar raiding his home.

He discovered the intruder inside his home in Ball Lane, Kennington, Ashford, late on Tuesday morning.

The intruder fled and as the 73-year-old tried to catch him he slipped and fell, sustaining serious injuries.

Police are appealing for information following the incident that happened between 11am and 12.30pm.

The homeowner spotted the intruder as he went into his kitchen from the study.

At the back door he grabbed the burglar and in the ensuing tussle the elderly man fell and broke his hip.

He was due to undergo surgery at the William Harvey hospital on Wednesday.

The young man police are hunting is white, 5ft 6ins tall, and was wearing a light blue hoody underneath a black jacket.

It is not believed that anything was stolen. Police are awaiting the results of forensic tests and are continuing enquiries.

Det Sgt Andy Chapman, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a person fitting the description in the Kennington area on Tuesday.”
