Kent Police car involved in crash on A28 near Kennington

A police car was involved in a crash which led to a van driver being taken to hospital.

Emergency services were called to the incident on the A28 outside Kennington, Ashford.

The crash happened in Canterbury Road between the turning for Wye and the Old Mill pub shortly before 6pm yesterday.

It partially blocked the road and was affecting traffic between Ashford and Chilham.

A police spokesperson added: "Shortly before 6pm on Wednesday, a police car which was on its way to an emergency call was involved in a collision with a van on the A28 near Kennington.

"Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended and the van driver was taken to a local hospital."

"The road was closed while the incident was responded to and reopened at around 9.45pm.

"Inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing."

It is understood the male van driver was not seriously injured.
