Police closed the M20 yesterday evening following reports of concerns for a woman.

Officers shut the coastbound stretch between Junction 9 and Junction 10 for Ashford to respond to the callout just before 5.40pm.

They were called to the A2070 near Sevington, and closed the M20 while the woman was safely located.

She was then handed over to the care of medics.

The closure of the motorway resulted in traffic being held coastbound.

Queues built up, yet they only remained for a brief period of time before the 2.5-mile stretch was reopened.
