Police surround Co-op in Churchfield Way, in Wye this morning following suspected armed robbery

Three masked men raided the Co-op in Wye this morning and threatened members of staff before taking off with a wad of cash.

Police have cordoned off the shop in Churchfield Way, with witnesses describing seeing armed officers outside.

An ambulance was also sent to the store after a member of staff was assaulted.

Police have confirmed that three masked men entered the store at 7am and threatened staff.

They then left with a quantity of cash.

A witness said: "It happened early this morning. Sounds as if someone went in and held it up.

"I think someone was pushed over although not seriously hurt.

"Staff are a bit shaken up."

One woman was treated by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment.

The shop was closed for several hours but has now re-opened.

Police are investigating.
