Police hunt for bike thieves after spate of burglaries in Singleton, Ashford

Police are warning residents to lock up their bikes securely following a spate of reported burglaries in the last week.

Officers say two bicycles and a moped were pinched from properties in the Singleton area of Ashford, which they believe could be linked.

The first reported theft was of a black and blue Carrera adult bike which was reported stolen from an outbuilding in Manorfield between 3.30pm and 9pm on Friday, July 1 last week.

Then officers returned to Manorfield on Tuesday, July 5 this week where a moped was reported stolen from a back garden between 9.30pm and 6.30am on Wednesday morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

A third incident was also reported overnight on Tuesday, where a black and gold BMX bicycle and a white adult mountain bike were taken from a garage of a house in Postling between 8pm and 6am.

Investigating officer Det Con Dennis Webster has urged bicycle and moped owners to take steps to reduce the risk of burglary.

He said: “We are keeping an open mind as to whether these incidents might be linked. If people are concerned, there are steps they can take to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

“These include using close shackle padlocks to secure sheds and install shed alarms and security lights. Owners can also consider having the bike engraved or use a security marker to identify them.”
