POLICE in Ashford have released the results of an operation aimed at cracking down on anti-social behaviour and speeding around the town's ring road.

On one day, July 22, 18 speeding motorists were stopped – two of them twice - and one was clocked doing 65mph which may result in a disqualification.

Three drivers must produce their documents at the police station, and a Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme ticket was issued. This means the owner has 14 days to have the defect on the vehicle fixed and checked by an MOT garage.

Six fixed penalty notices were issued for contravening Prohibition of Driving on the Lower High Street, and CCTV has led to a further five notices of intended prosecution.

Sgt Paul Looker, of Ashford Police, said: “We have had numerous complaints from local residents, so we decided to stop the anti-social behaviour.

"The operation was a success and it highlights the officers’ commitment to dealing with this issue. As a result of this initiative, similar operations will be run on a regular basis to continue the good work.”
