Campaigners will gather at a Folkestone landmark on Friday afternoon to protest at its proposed closure.

The Leas Lift is a water balance lift built in 1885 to carry passengers from the heights of the Leas Cliff down to the beach.

It was one of four to serve the town, and is the only one to have survived.

Shepway District Council wants to return its lease to the Radnor Estate as it is losing so much money - between £40,000 and £60,000 per year.

But protesters say that is small change compared to the loss to the town of such an amenity.
