The pub in Loudon Way, Godinton Park told customers about the closure on Monday and the landlords said they were expecting to get open this evening.

"I'd like let you know we're shut until further notice due to a gas leak," they wrote via the pub's Facebook page.

"Please accept our apologies for this unforeseen situation and see you all when we open back up."

The pair posted the issue had been found and isolated safely earlier this afternoon and said a new part was being fitted to fix the problem.

They have been keeping customers updated via social media in another post said they were hoping to reopen again this evening.

"We will update via here once we know more. Please note, there is no danger to the pub or surrounding properties," they wrote.

"Hopefully we'll be good to go for late afternoon or early evening."

The business was taken over by new landlords Shona and Rick Bailey at the start of this year as the couple returned to the area where they used to live.

The husband and wife team revamped the site after lockdown following investment from the Punch pub company and said the community deserved to have the "best pub" in Ashford.

It is the second pub the duo have taken under their wing, having transformed The Golden Arrow in Sandgate.
