KMTV report on the latest coronavirus case

An email has been sent out by The North School, making parents aware of the situation.

It reads: "We are contacting you to advise that one of our students has been diagnosed with coronavirus.

"The family affected are self-isolating and will continue to do so as directed by Public Health England."

The educational institute in Essella Road noted the family and school had been "liaising closely" with Public Health England.

The advice given to the school by the health body said: "Following a risk assessment by PHE I can confirm that the individual has not attended school while they have been symptomatic and therefore would not have had direct contact with anyone at school while they were infectious.

"Therefore there is no need for further action by the school in relation to this case."

North School said that following this advice, the school will remain open as normal.

Pupils are expected to attend unless they become unwell.

In the email, signed by headteacher Anna Lawrence, they encouraged parents to promote these preventative measures:

  • Catch coughs or sneezes with a tissue, then bin the tissue and wash hands or use sanitiser gel.
  • Wash hands often and well, especially after using public transport.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

The school has said it's in the process of buying hand sanitiser and placing them throughout its buildings for staff, students and visitors.

The North School has been approached for comment.
