DNA found on a rape victim's clothes matched that of Antoni Imiela, a jury at Maidstone Crown Court heard today.

It was discovered on the 26-year-old woman's top and bra she was wearing at the time of the attack in August 2002.

Mr Imiela, from Appledore, near Ashford, is accused of raping her during a spate of attacks in 2001 and 2002 in which the prosecution allege he assaulted eight women and children.

Forensic scientist Valerie Tomlinson told the court that there was a one in three million chance that a partial DNA profile found on her blue vest did not belong to Mr Imiela.

The top was ripped during the attack which took place in woodland in Epsom, Surrey, and DNA matching the 49-year-old's was also found on two pieces of the torn blue material found at the scene.

Only a few strands of genetic material were present and there was a one in 60 chance that the DNA did not belong to Mr Imiela, the jury was told.

The scientist also said there was a one in 600 possibility that DNA found on the woman's bra was not his. A full DNA profile was not detected.

Mr Imiela denies nine charges of rape, one of attempted rape, indecent assault and kidnap.

His first attack is alleged to have been the rape of a 10-year-old girl on the Stanhope estate at Ashford.
