It believed that traffic can get past in one lane.

Andy Beston, South East Water Regional Network Manager, said: “We’re very sorry to anyone who may be impacted by a burst water main in A20 Maidstone Road, Charing.

“We were alerted to a burst on a six-inch-diameter water main which was quickly repaired by our team in the early hours of Monday morning.

“As a consequence of very dry ground conditions and the resulting earth movement, South East Water has seen a 50 per cent increase in bursts along its 9,000 miles of mains running deep underground below roads, motorways, railway lines, fields and rivers.

"This network of pipe, laid end to end, would stretch from England to Australia.

“Temporary traffic lights are in place to protect motorists and pedestrians while we safely restore the road to its original condition and we anticipate these will be removed by Thursday this week.”
