A ground-breaking ceremony has taken place to mark the start of work on constructing a new Wyvern primary school alongside the Great Chart bypass.
The building of the primary school on the current secondary school site will take place over the next 12 months, with children moving in after the summer holidays. Although they share the Wyvern name, the primary and secondary buildings were previously a mile apart.

Pictured at the sod-turning ceremony (right) are Cllr Mike Whiting, Wyvern school council members Emily Oliver and Ellie Pyburn and head teacher David Spencer.

KCC education boss Mike Whiting said: “This is one of those projects we have wanted to see happen for some time and it was a great pleasure for me to mark the start of work.

"By bringing the primary and secondary schools together, it will enhance the sense of community and give the primary pupils access to the specialist facilities available in the secondary building.”
Inside there will be seven classrooms, a communal area, care facilities, specially-adapted toilets and office space.
