A serial rapist who attacked three women in Kent - tying one up and targeting another at a festival - has been convicted.

Daniel Frake, formerly of Ashford, subjected his victims to sustain sexual violence between 2007 and 2014.

The 38-year-old had pleaded guilty to raping one woman but denied assaulting a further two, claiming sex was consensual.

But jurors convicted Frake of two counts of rape and sexual assault following a trial at Canterbury Crown Court.

Prosecutors argued he raped two women, also sexually assaulting one of them, in Ashford between 2007 and 2012, he then targeted another in Margate in 2014.

“This is a case that involves the sexual assault and rape of two women, it is the crown’s case that Mr Frake exploited their vulnerabilities,” prosecutor Tim Naik told jurors.

Describing one attack in Margate between 2007 and 2008, Mr Naik said: “(Frake) tied her up and sexually assaulted her, then raped her.”

Frake would then rape another woman while stifling her screams inside a festival in the Ashford district in 2010, Mr Naik said.

“He grabbed her by the throat, humiliating her, spitting in her face, she says she was trying to scream but he covered her mouth and she couldn’t,” he said.

No details were given in court of the attack Frake pleaded guilty to before trial.

But the court heard one victim fled the UK after believing the police initially “did not take her complaint seriously”.

Her case was only re-examined after the force received a complaint from a separate woman.

Mr Naik continued: “The prosecution say he wouldn’t take no for an answer, that is the sort of person he is.

“He wouldn’t take a lack of consent seriously.

“These witnesses have all suffered at the hands of Mr Frake.”

The court heard Frake vehemently denied two allegations of rape and one of sexual assault following his arrest in 2016.

He argued in court the sex was either consensual or did not happen.

But jurors took four hours and 12 minutes to convict Frake of two counts of rape and sexual assault.

Frake, of Elm Grove Road in Salisbury, Wiltshire, was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on July 29 pending reports into dangerousness.
