Parking restrictions on Ashford’s shared space start this weekend – meaning motorists can be fined up to £70 for parking on it.
The enforcement comes into effect from Sunday. Drivers who have taken advantage of the scheme’s 'clutter free’ philosophy will have to look for other places to park.
The restrictions, which include parking in taxi ranks, bus lanes and not paying for pay-and-display bays, have been expected to come into force since January.
There will be no yellow lines marking the restrictions as the Department for Transport decided that the area should have no markings, and with signs at a minimum. The warnings will be indicated by signs at the entrances.
Over the past few weeks, people parking on the shared space have been given flyers warning them that if they park there from Sunday they will be fined.
The shared space restricted parking zone includes the following roads: Apsley Street, Bank Street, East Street, Elwick Road, Elwick Square, Forge Lane, Gasworks Lane, Godinton Road, Godinton Way, Middle Street, Norwood Gardens, Regents Place, Queen Street, Tufton Street and West Street.
