Changes have been made to an Ashford store after a toddler’s eye was badly damaged on a clothing rail.
Poppy Cooper, two, was with her mum Jenny, dad Ryan and sister Emie at Calvin Klein at the Ashford Designer Outlet when her eyelid became stuck on a metal hook on the end of a low rail.
The poor tot was left with blood pouring down her face and a cut on her upper eyelid.
She was rushed to the William Harvey Hospital, where she stayed overnight before having surgery the next day.
Now, nearly two weeks later, brave Poppy is on the mend, and has managed to open her eye, which was left swollen and sore after the horrific accident.
Mum Jenny Cooper, of Elm Place, Ashford, said: “Her eye is healing up nicely.
“There is a tilt to it but the surgeon did say she’d be left with a tilt.
“I’m just so happy it’s opening and she can see.”
Mrs Cooper added that little Poppy has been left with nightmares following the freak incident and that she would wake up shouting ‘eyes, eyes’.
Now, following concerned calls from Mrs Cooper to the store, changes have been made to the layout to prevent another accident happening.
The lowest level of rails, which had underwear hanging on them, have been removed, and plastic stoppers have been added to the remaining low rails.
Mrs Cooper added: “Calvin Klein have been quite nice and they’ve changed all the rails in the shops so that’s comforting.
“We went into Calvin Klein on Sunday to thank the member of staff who looked after us when it happened. And the security guard first aider.
“It was nice to be able to thank them and for them to see Poppy in a better way.”
Following the incident on Saturday, July 11, a spokesman for Calvin Klein said: “We continue to speak with the Cooper family to check on Poppy’s progress and believe they are appreciative of both the support given when the incident occurred and following.
“We removed the lowest row of rails immediately after the incident and installed covers on the rail tips of the lower rows of the remaining rails and are rolling the cover out across our stores.”
