Sixties singing and acting star John Leyton headlines a Valentine’s night.
And the Valentine’s Charity Ball will also have a leading councillor as part of a light-hearted double act called Rigor and Mortis.
Leyton, whose hits include Johnny Remember Me, appears at the Woodchurch Rare Breeds Centre on Saturday, February 13 at 7.30pm.
The event is both for Find a Voice, the Ashford charity for those with speech and communication problems, and Ashford Valley Riding for the Disabled Group.
Ashford council cabinet member Michael Claughton, teams up with former Foreign Office diplomat Alastair Dutch to form the hosting duo Rigor and Mortis.
Cllr Claughton said: “We are thrilled to have got a major star from the Sixties for the show. John is still touring now and attracting audiences.”
Mr Leyton will entertain through the night with his backing band The Flames.
He will front the show for an hour with rock 'n’roll classics and the band will take the spotlight for half an hour with instrumentals and songs.
John Leyton’s singing career peaked in 1961 with the number one hit Johnny Remember Me and Wild Wind, which reached number two in the charts.
He also had roles in the classic film The Great Escape with Steve McQueen in 1963 and Von Ryan’s Express with Frank Sinatra two years later.
Cllr Claughton (Con) is the Ashford Borough Council portfolio holder for parking and community safety.
Tickets for the show cost £40 and can be obtained from Find a Voice on 01233 640443.
