High speed train

Only travel if your journey is absolutely essential.

That is the continuing advice being given out by Kent Police to motorists this morning (Friday) as ice and snow are still making driving conditions hazardous.

With temperatures expected to remain below freezing today the police say many roads remain treacherous and some country roads are impassable.

Train services are also badly disrupted.

Severe delays are predicted for those who do venture out onto the area's motorways.

M20 - Operation Stack remains in place coastbound between junctions 11 and 12 with traffic being diverted onto A20. Junction 8-9 open although conditions are poor. Maidstone Services - full to capacity at access points, also queuing on slip roads.

M26 - passable with care in both directions. M2/A2 - is open. However, there is only one lane open M2 between junctions four and one. Eurotunnel - 3-4 trains running per hour.

A2 - mainly clear and passable in the north of the county although very hazardous in North Kent. At Dover down to one lane, passable with care. Gillingham-Chatham hazardous conditions. Joining A256 very heavy slow.

A20 - at the junction with the B2057 Lympne, no vehicles can get up the hill. Lenham to Ashford 4x4 capability only. Capel Le Ferne very icy. Slow moving traffic towards Folkestone.
