Straight as an arrow - club celebrates feat

Sorry, this video asset has been removed.

Sherwood Forest might be more than 200 miles away but an archery
boss thinks a real-life Robin Hood is somewhere in Ashford.

John Kay, who owns Great Chart Golf and Leisure, said he was
stunned to come across an arrow which had split another arrow
straight down the middle.

Mr Kay, who runs the venue with his brother Grant, said: "I've
never seen anything like it. It makes you wonder if there's a Robin
Hood out there."

The 40-year-old, whose business in Bears Lane has been around
for nearly 20 years, added: "We went out to collect the arrows and
there it was, one arrow straight down the middle of another arrow.
It's never happened here before."

Because visitors to the archery course, where anyone can turn up
for a round of the sport, are not allowed to collect their arrows
it is likely the person who fired it would not have realised what
they had done.

An American TV show attempted to find out whether it was
possible, as in the classic Errol Flynn Robin Hood film, to split
an arrow from neck to tip with another.

Called Mythbusters, the presenters of the show said achieving
the feat was about 3,000 to one and even using a robot they were
unable to get an arrow to split.
