Strike action to hit train services

Eurostar services between the UK and Brussel will grind to a halt on Monday due to industrial action in Belgium.

Belgian rail workers will strike for 24 hours from 10pm Sunday - their second walkout this year over pay and working conditions – and the Brussels Midi station and the rest of the Belgian rail network will close.

This means Eurostar will be unable to operate any services between the UK and Brussels or Lille, due to the added pressure of a reduced timetable as the clean-up after the Channel Tunnel fire continues.

There will also be no high-speed onward rail connections on Thalys or ICE, from Brussels to destinations in France, the Netherlands and Germany.

All passengers due to travel between the UK and Brussels or Lille on Monday are advised to exchange their tickets for alternative dates or obtain refunds by contacting their original point of sale.

Eurostar services between St Pancras International, Ebbsfleet International, Ashford International and Paris will operate as stated in the new amended timetable issued 1 October 2008.

Eurostar expects to resume a full service immediately the industrial action has ended.
