Mechanical problems ended Leon Camier’s hopes of success in the Suzuka Eight-Hour World Endurance Championship race in Japan.

The Ashford rider is now back in the UK for round 10 of the World Superbike Championship at Silverstone on Sunday, looking to put on a show in front of his home fans.

Camier (pictured) and Yoshimura Suzuki team-mates Josh Waters and Nobuatsu Akoi qualified third for the endurance race.

They were leading until a mystery engine issue forced them into the pits and cost them eight laps.

They were forced to retire after seven hours.

Camier said: “Everyone’s disappointed but that’s endurance racing. It’s just one of those things."

“It’s difficult to say if we had the pace to win or not but we would definitely have been an easy second."
