The former caterer of Ashford Golf Club was remembered at the first match of an annual tournament.
Players gathered to honour Paul Oliver, who was also one-time landlord of the Hare and Hounds pub and died last year from pancreatic cancer.
His family watched the first players tee off.
Widow Tina Oliver explained how working at the club was a perfect job for Paul: “He used to play a lot but he also had a pub! He’s been about here for quite a few years.”
Mr Oliver had started at the golf club in the 1970s before taking up the landlord’s position at the Hare and Hounds. After helping the club out on several occasions, he became the full-time caterer.
The Paul Oliver Cup will be played for every year, on the last May bank holiday.
