A man with a long record of anti-social behaviour has been banned from every pub in Wye.

Liam Sims, of Little Chequers, Wye, received a criminal behaviour order from Canterbury Magistrates’ Court last month following complaints from the community about drunken abuse and assaults.

The 45-year-old appeared in court to answer a charge of common assault, which was committed on Saturday, February 28, and was his second offence in a year.

Following this assault, and numerous complaints from residents, police applied for a criminal behaviour order under new anti-social behaviour legislation.

The order prohibits Sims from entering any pub or premises licensed to sell alcohol, and from having an open container with alcoholic contents in any public place in the village.

Sergeant Gavin Hart, from the Ashford community safety unit, said “The village of Wye is such a beautiful tight knit community and it’s wrong that one person was causing so many problems for the local residents and businesses.

“Liam had been banned from most of the shops and pubs in Wye under the Pub Watch scheme (a civil scheme) and it seemed only right to support those businesses.

“Local residents and businesses have been great in supplying evidence, and the Community Safety Unit would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their support.

“The order will only be a success if the local community is willing to call the police and inform them of any breaches.”

The order will run until August 23, 2017.
