A clean sweep for the Tories saw them increase their majority on Shepway council.
Of the 46 seats up for grabs, only two went to another party, People First.
In a picture reflected nationally, the Liberal Democrats, previously the opposition, failed to retain any seats.
While Tories celebrated, the night was a personal disaster for Lib Dem group leader Lynne Beaumont, who lost both her district and town council seats.
Fighting back tears, she said: "I think people voted on national issues rather than local ones.
"People are not happy with what is happening nationally and it is hard when nationally you are an unpopular party."
Among other high profile Lib Dems who suffered shock defeats were Tim Prater and the outgoing Mayor of Folkestone Tom McNeice.
Mr McNeice said: "It is sad to lose. I think it is down to the national party - at least I will have more time to spend with the family now."
Conservative leader Robert Bliss, who retained his seat in Sandgate, said: "We are very pleased that we have increased our majority. Real, local work that we have done has paid off."
The Shepway count took place after polling stations closed last night - and lasted all night.
The Ashford borough count got under way on Friday morning, with the result not expected until late on Friday afternoon.
A full list of ward results for both councils will appear in next week's Kentish Express.
