Developers have unveiled plans for four new blocks of flats to be built at a disused town centre industrial site.
Carrington Group wants to build the new homes in Victoria Crescent, off Victoria Way in Ashford.
The two sites earmarked for development sit opposite each other at the corner of Victoria Crescent and George Street on land previously used by Travis Perkins for a builders yard and the former H.S Pledge & Son bakery.
The plans would include up to 59 new flats in total, and will provide 100% car parking provision after staff at Carrington met with council officials to discuss concerns in March earlier this year.
In the planning statement, the group states: “It is suitable for a flatted development with smaller one and two bedroom flats providing accommodation which will be attractive to young professionals and prospective first time buyers.”
The blocks could stand five storeys tall and would contain either one or two bedrooms with a balcony. They would be built in an area earmarked for future development by Ashford Borough Council.
To the east, Chapel Down vineyards has submitted a planning application for a brewery and visitor centre, while supermarket chain Aldi has also looked to move to the area.
To the west, Quinn Estates has submitted plans for 660 new homes at the former Powergen site in Leacon Road, which would also include a new cafe and a new bridge into Victoria Park.
