A driver in his 30s has died following a serious crash between a flatbed van and a lorry on an A-road.
Emergency services were called to A28 Great Chart Bypass in Ashford between the Matalan and Tithe Barn Lane roundabouts this morning.
Paramedics were seen to join police and the fire service at the scene at 11am.
The vehicles – a white Mercedes van and an orange DAF lorry – were both severely damaged and the van driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The lorry driver has been taken to the William Harvey Hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.
The road remains closed for almost nine hours to allow collision investigation work to take place, with the affected stretch finally reopening at 8.42pm.
Delays in the area were worsened by a second crash, which partially blocked Tithe Barn Lane in both directions.
