Vandals have forced a sports facility in Ashford to close for essential repairs following a spate of anti-social behaviour.
Ashford Borough Council, which runs Courtside and Pitchside, says people smoking, littering and damaging a pitch led to the last-minute decision to close the site in Stanhope Road throughout August.
A council spokesman confirmed: “It is with regret that due to unforeseen circumstances both Courtside and Pitchside will be closed from Monday, August 1 through to Wednesday, August 31.
"Following a recent site visit some essential maintenance works and other concerns have come to light, which need to be immediately addressed.
“This includes anti-social behaviour on the site including littering, drinking, smoking, swearing and damage to the pitch - which is simply not acceptable on a community facility.
“We are therefore currently unable to take any bookings for the month of August.
"For customers who have already made bookings we will endeavour to arrange a refund as soon as possible.
"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
"It is a shame the actions of some people has led us to take this action and stop access for others.”
The site is used by a number of sports groups who hire out the facility which has 3G and grass pitches as well as tennis and netball courts.
